SANTA CLARITA, Los Angeles County — October 23, 2026. Santa Clarita voters should confirm which City Council district covers their home before reading November 3 candidate comparisons. The City Clerk’s official election page states that three council seats will be decided this year: Districts 2, 4 and 5. The city now uses by-district council elections, not its former system in which voters chose candidates for every citywide seat.
Why are some districts voting and others not?
Santa Clarita began district elections in November 2024 after a settlement agreement, when two council districts held elections. The remaining three districts have seats scheduled for November 2026. City Council members serve staggered four-year terms. The city publishes its final district map and residency lookup so residents can check their assignment by address.
How do candidates get on the ballot?
Santa Clarita’s July election announcement explained that applicants in Districts 2, 4 and 5 sought qualifying voter signatures and filed nomination paperwork during the summer. Because those dates have passed, voters should now consult the official list of qualified candidates and the county’s sample ballot for their home address. Campaign flyers are not evidence that someone was ultimately certified to appear on the ballot.
What should you check before November 3?
Confirm the council district on the city map; review each candidate’s official information and campaign finance reports; check the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk for current vote centers, drop boxes and ballot tracking. October 19 was California’s regular registration deadline, but eligible residents may still be able to use conditional voter registration at designated vote centers through Election Day. The California Secretary of State explains this process.
Questions about the city’s election?
The City Clerk’s Office is listed at 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 120 and can be contacted through the city’s election webpage. For the actual place to vote, use the county’s current official locator instead of assuming that City Hall is a vote center.
