SANTA CLARITA, Los Angeles County — October 31, 2026. A planned parking structure in Old Town Newhall has reached a significant procurement milestone. At its October 27 meeting, the City Council awarded a design-build contract to McCarthy Building Companies for the Main Street Parking Structure with a contract amount not to exceed $24,003,380.

What did the vote authorize?

The official council recap lists the contract award for both design and construction. This is a contractual authorization, rather than an announcement that a completed garage is now accepting cars. It does not establish an opening date, parking rates or the number of spaces that will ultimately be available.

Why Old Town Newhall residents should follow the project

Main Street supports downtown businesses, events, and nearby pedestrian activity. A new structure could affect how people approach the area, but benefits, traffic effects and construction impacts should be evaluated through the actual project plans rather than assumed from the contract total.

The council meeting also included a separate authorization to acquire property at 24318–24322 Main Street for $1.9 million, plus escrow and due diligence costs. That is a distinct agenda action. The city’s recap does not say the property purchase and parking-structure contract are the same transaction, so they should not be combined into one supposed $25.9 million contract.

What details are still needed?

Residents and merchants can ask the city for the project site plan, construction timetable, temporary street or parking restrictions, accessibility features and how the garage will operate once completed. The design-build award alone does not answer those questions.

For verified updates, use the city’s council agendas and recaps and official construction notices. An anticipated improvement should not be described as a currently available public parking option.
